My Heart Belongs To The River

$630.00

I started this painting in the Spring of 2020, a time when I was painting very slowly and softly. I liked the soothing nature of simple brush strokes and colour blocked sections, it was like taking abstract pieces of our new world and being able to make them fit somewhere. The process of going slow and not making too many conflicting marks felt comforting and allowed me to get lost in the flow and forget the chaos of the world around me. I didn't finish it in Spring 2020, I left it at about 90% done, with only a few sections missing. I picked it back up in 2021 and felt drawn to fill in the last sections with light blue. I stepped back and realized what I had just created, a piece all about my love of open bodies of water. I grew up in a small town that is known worldwide as the 'Heart of the 1000 Islands' and it is on the St. Lawerence River. The river, the ocean, and lakes have always brought a tremendous amount of healing for me, there is something magical about the pull of the water that can wash away what no longer serves you. This piece makes me think of a gorgeous sunset dancing with the river and whenever I look at it makes me feel at home, right where I belong, on the river.
